AB 1731 Summary

• Creates the Statewide Interagency Human Trafficking Task Force within the Department of Justice, chaired by a Department of Justice representative.

• Task force membership includes representatives from nine state agencies: Social Services, Children and Family Services, Labor and Workforce Development, Public Health, Corrections and Rehabilitation, Education, Judicial Council, Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board, and Consumer Affairs.

• Task force shall gather statewide data on sex and labor traffickers, sex buyers, and human trafficking victims including prosecution and victim service statistics.

• Task force shall recommend interagency protocols and best practices for law enforcement, victim service providers, educators, hotel workers, and other employees likely to encounter human trafficking.

• Task force may create advisory committees comprised of subject matter experts including county and municipal agencies, survivors, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to assist with its duties.
