AB 2018 Summary

• Requires governing boards of community college districts to provide annual training to mandated reporter employees and administrators on child abuse detection and reporting, using the State Department of Education's online training module or alternative approved training.

• Mandated reporters must complete training within the first 6 weeks of each academic year or within 6 weeks of employment; employees working at multiple community college districts need only complete training once per academic year.

• Requires community college districts to develop a process for employees to provide proof of training completion through sign-in sheets or certificates of completion.

• Requires community college districts to identify students who are minors and provide that information only to mandated reporter faculty and employees, with strict confidentiality requirements.

• Establishes that failure to report known or reasonably suspected child abuse or neglect is a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in county jail, a fine of $1,000, or both.
