AB 2166 Summary

• Expands existing fee waivers for surviving spouses and children of deceased law enforcement and fire suppression personnel to include mandatory campus-based fees in addition to systemwide tuition and fees

• Applies waiver to University of California, California State University, and Hastings College of the Law institutions

• Requires deceased employee to have been a state or local public agency employee/contractor whose principal duties involved active law enforcement or fire suppression, and died in performance of those duties or from work-related accidents

• Limits waiver for surviving children of contractors to undergraduate students with annual household income not exceeding Cal Grant B eligibility threshold

• Excludes security guards and security officers from contractor definition and clarifies that surviving stepchildren must have lived with or been financially dependent on the deceased person
