AB 2724 - Unmanned Aircraft (DRONE Act)

• Manufacturers of unmanned aircraft sold in California must include links to FAA safety regulations and, if required, FAA registration information with each aircraft sold

• Unmanned aircraft equipped with GPS mapping capabilities must include geofencing technology to prevent flight in areas prohibited by local, state, or federal law, unless preempted by federal law

• Unmanned aircraft owners must procure adequate liability protection for personal injury, death, and property damage caused by aircraft operation, with the Department of Insurance and Department of Transportation to determine adequate coverage amounts

• Liability protection requirement becomes operative on January 1, 2020

• Exempts unmanned aircraft operated under FAA exemptions, Certificates of Waiver or Authorization, or other FAA commercial operator authorizations
