Counties with technical capacity must post election results on their websites beginning election night and continuing daily through the first Friday after election day, then weekly on Fridays until results are certified, in downloadable spreadsheet and Election Markup Language (EML) formats.

Posted information must include total ballots cast, votes by precinct for each candidate and measure, total votes for each candidate and measure, and votes by city and district for statewide offices and propositions.

Reduces the required posting period for certified election results from 10 years to 22 months on the elections official's website.

County elections officials must propose voting system modifications to the Secretary of State by December 31, 2017, if such modifications would enable compliance with the new posting requirements.

After December 31, 2017, the Secretary of State cannot certify or conditionally approve any voting system that cannot generate results in both spreadsheet and EML formats and transfer data to external digital media.
