AB 542 Summary

• Exempts students attending early college high schools from low enrollment priority requirements when enrolling in required courses for their program, matching existing exemptions for middle college high school students.

• Excludes students from early and middle college high schools enrolled in required physical education courses from the 10% and 5% enrollment limits on special part-time and full-time students in PE courses, effective until January 1, 2021.

• Requires the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges to report annually to the Department of Finance and Legislature on full-time equivalent students (FTES) claimed for middle and early college high school students in degree-applicable physical education courses, until January 1, 2021.

• Establishes that the amended provisions expire January 1, 2021, unless extended by later legislation, with a permanent version of Section 76002 becoming operative on that date.
