AB 655 Summary

• Increases the maximum additional annual fee for licensed renderers and collection centers from $3,000 to $10,000 per year.

• Raises the registration fee for inedible kitchen grease transporters from $100 to not exceed $250, and increases the additional annual fee per vehicle from $300 to $500, with a maximum of $10,000 per year per registered transporter.

• Authorizes the Secretary of Food and Agriculture to determine specific fee amounts based on findings and recommendations from the Rendering Industry Advisory Board, subject to the stated maximums.

• Exempts individuals transporting inedible kitchen grease for personal noncommercial use as alternative fuel from 75 percent of applicable fees, subject to specified conditions including a 55-gallon per load limit and 165-gallon possession limit.

• Provisions become inoperative July 1, 2020 and are repealed January 1, 2021 unless extended by later legislation.
