CA SB1031

Requires the Department of Justice to develop and implement a California Juvenile Justice Information System by July 1, 2019, to collect and maintain statewide statistical information on juvenile justice.

System must include integrated data collection on demographics and case processing of juveniles, effectiveness of prevention and intervention programs, and support for local juvenile justice agencies in developing their own data systems.

Department must develop a design structure and implementation plan for the system by January 1, 2018, in consultation with Chief Probation Officers of California, the Judicial Council, juvenile advocates, and other stakeholders.

Appropriates an unspecified amount from the General Fund to the Department of Justice for developing the design structure and implementation plan for the system.

Amended in Senate on April 6, 2016 to transfer responsibility from the Board of State and Community Corrections to the Department of Justice and removed the January 1, 2020 repeal date of existing juvenile justice data collection requirements.
