CA SB1359

Requires each California Community Colleges and California State University campus to clearly highlight courses using exclusively free digital course materials in online course schedules, requests same from University of California campuses.

Mandates campuses communicate to students that course materials for identified courses are free of charge and not required to be purchased.

Defines eligible free course materials to include open educational resources, institutionally licensed library materials, and other properly licensed materials that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Copyright Act.

Becomes operative January 1, 2018.

Provides that if the Commission on State Mandates determines the bill imposes state-mandated costs, reimbursement shall be made pursuant to Government Code Part 7.
