SB 1478 Summary

• Beginning July 1, 2017, exempts licensees with retired or inactive licenses from the $6 annual CURES (Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System) fee requirement.

• Modifies dental licensure exam requirements to remove the separate Part I and Part II examination requirement, allowing applicants to complete a single National Board Dental Examination instead.

• Renames "marriage and family therapist intern" to "associate marriage and family therapist" and "professional clinical counselor intern" to "associate professional clinical counselor" effective January 1, 2018, with corresponding regulatory references updated.

• Abolishes the Bureau of Medical Statistics within the Medical Board of California and removes the 10-year complaint record retention requirement for poor quality of care complaints.

• Modifies the California Board of Podiatric Medicine to elect a president, vice president, and secretary instead of just a president and vice president.
