CA SB330

Expands the definition of "remote interest" in public officer contracts to include elected officers whose spouse, child, parent, sibling, or their spouses have financial interests in contracts made by that officer, effective January 1, 2017.

Creates new criminal penalties for officers who knowingly fail to disclose remote interests in contracts, or willfully fail to disclose such interests.

Requires disclosure of remote interests to the body or board of which the officer is a member and notation in official records before contract authorization.

Specifies that contract violations do not void the contract unless the contracting party had knowledge of the remote interest at the time of execution.

Exempts the state from reimbursing local agencies and school districts for costs related to the new criminal penalties, citing Section 6 of Article XIII B of the California Constitution.
