AB 1828 - Budget Act of 2018 Amendments

• Amends the Budget Act of 2018 by modifying and adding approximately 40 budget items across multiple state departments and programs for the 2018-19 fiscal year.

• Includes significant allocations for judicial branch operations ($2.5 billion for trial court support), K-12 education ($2.2 billion federal trust fund), child care services ($938 million), social services programs ($1.2 billion), and higher education institutions.

• Makes one-time appropriations for specific programs including: $15 million for pre-trial reform implementation, $30 million for precision medicine research, $105 million for University of California general needs, and various grants for food banks, drinking water testing, and emergency services.

• Establishes new appropriation items and reappropriations for coastal conservation, water quality, libraries, and telecommunications services; authorizes fund transfers between departments for specific purposes.

• Takes effect immediately as a Budget Bill requiring only a majority vote, with provisions allowing the Director of Finance to make certain augmentations with legislative notification.
