CA AB2015

Requires school districts and charter schools to ensure pupils receive information on completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application at least once before entering grade 12, beginning with the 2020-21 school year.

Schools may provide information through in-class instruction, existing programs, family information sessions, or individual/group counselor sessions, at the discretion of the governing board or charter school body.

Required information must include documentation requirements, definitions of key terms, eligibility requirements, application timelines, and the importance of early submission.

Schools must provide paper copies of the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application upon request by a pupil or their parent/guardian.

Schools must ensure all information shared by parents, guardians, and pupils is handled according to applicable state and federal privacy laws.
