AB 2272 Summary

• Authorizes the California Transportation Commission to relinquish any portion or all of Route 111 within the City of Palm Springs' city limits to the city, subject to terms and conditions agreed upon by the Department of Transportation and Palm Springs.

• Relinquishment becomes effective the day after the county recorder records the commission's approval resolution containing the relinquishment terms and conditions.

• Upon relinquishment, the affected Route 111 segments cease to be state highways and become ineligible for future adoption under Section 81 of the Streets and Highways Code.

• The City of Palm Springs must maintain signs within its city limits directing motorists to the continuation of Route 111 following relinquishment.

• Establishes that previously relinquished Route 111 portions in Riverside County and the Cities of Cathedral City, Coachella, Indian Wells, Indio, La Quinta, and Palm Desert are not state highways and not eligible for adoption.
