AB 2522 Summary

• Removes the requirement that developmental disabilities constitute a "substantial disability" for an individual, expanding eligibility for services under the Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Services Act.

• Eliminates the 33% developmental delay threshold for infants and toddlers in early intervention services, instead requiring only a documented "difference" between expected and current development levels.

• Repeals the prohibition on regional centers purchasing nonrequired services, allowing them to purchase services beyond early intervention services if included in a consumer's plan.

• Repeals the suspension on regional center purchase of camping services, social recreation activities, educational services for children 3-17, and nonmedical therapies that was pending implementation of the Individual Choice Budget.

• Repeals the Family Cost Participation Program that required families with annual income at or above 400% of the federal poverty guideline to contribute toward respite, day care, and camping services for their children with developmental disabilities.
