Requires governing boards of local educational agencies serving grades 7-12 to review their pupil suicide prevention policies at minimum every 5 years and update them if necessary.

Maintains existing requirements for agencies to adopt suicide prevention policies before the 2017-18 school year addressing prevention, intervention, and postvention procedures.

Continues requirement that policies address high-risk groups including youth bereaved by suicide, youth with disabilities or mental illness, homeless youth, and LGBTQ youth.

Requires training materials for teachers to include identification of mental health services and proper referral procedures, with option for self-review completion.

Specifies that if the Commission on State Mandates determines the act imposes state-mandated costs, reimbursement shall be made pursuant to Government Code Part 7.
