California Community Colleges and California State University must provide reasonable accommodations for lactating students, including access to a private room with a comfortable seat and table, permission to bring breast pumps, and access to power sources.

Lactating students must be given reasonable time to express breast milk or breast-feed and cannot incur academic penalties; they must be allowed to make up any missed work.

New campuses or buildings costing $5 million or more must include a sink in the lactation accommodation room, unless an existing designated room already has one.

Lactation accommodations must be available whenever students are required to be on campus; satellite campuses of these systems and University of California are encouraged (but not required) to comply.

Requirements must be implemented by January 1, 2020; complaints of noncompliance can be filed through existing regulatory procedures with remedies provided if violations are found.
