Manufacturers of food packaging or cookware sold in California must visibly disclose on the exterior packaging whether the product contains perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) using a specified statement in 12-point type.

The required disclosure statement reads: "Contains perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), synthetic chemicals known, or strongly suspected, by the State of California to have adverse impacts on human health or development."

Defines PFAS as man-made chemicals with at least one fully fluorinated carbon atom and specifies the scope of covered products as food packaging (containers, wrappers, serving vessels, disposable plates) and cookware (pots, pans, baking sheets, kitchen tools).

Applies to food packaging comprised of multiple parts or components, with each part containing PFAS requiring the disclosure statement in a manner visible to consumers.
