Designates August 16, 2018, as Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis Awareness Day in California to enhance public awareness of HIV prevention strategies

Recognizes that approximately 1.2 million people in the United States and over 220,000 people in California are at high risk for HIV exposure and could benefit from PrEP and PEP medications

Notes that PrEP is over 90 percent effective at preventing HIV infection, but only about 12 percent of high-risk Americans have initiated the regimen

Identifies disparities in PrEP and PEP awareness and utilization among racial and ethnic minorities and lack of education about these medications among primary care doctors and nurses

Supports the State Department of Public Health's 2016 goal of "Getting to Zero" by reducing new HIV infections, AIDS-related deaths, and stigma against people with HIV in California
