Legislature opposes the proposed Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient (SAFE) Vehicles Rule by the EPA and NHTSA that would allow lower vehicle efficiency standards for passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks.

Legislature opposes the EPA's proposed withdrawal of California's January 9, 2013 waiver under the federal Clean Air Act that allows the state to set stricter vehicle emissions and air quality standards than federal requirements.

Resolution notes California has received over 130 waivers from the EPA since 1972 to establish higher emissions standards and that this authority has had bipartisan support for over 50 years.

Chief Clerk of the Assembly directed to transmit copies of this resolution to the President, Vice President, Congress members, and relevant federal agencies including the EPA and NHTSA.
