Legislature strongly supports existing fuel economy and greenhouse gas emissions standards and California's federal Clean Air Act waivers that allow the state to set stricter vehicle emissions rules than federal standards.

Legislature will consider all appropriate actions to maintain vehicle emissions standards to protect public health, California residents, and the economy.

Legislature strongly urges the President, Vice President, Secretary of Transportation, and EPA Administrator to reject the Safer and Affordable Fuel Efficient Vehicles Proposed Rule for Model Years 2021–2026, which would freeze fuel economy targets and withdraw California's waiver authority.

Existing standards have created over 100,000 jobs nationally and 10,000 manufacturing jobs in California while saving residents tens of billions in fuel and health costs and reducing air pollution-related deaths.

Withdrawing California's waiver would increase oil consumption by 500,000 barrels per day and cost California residents over $36 billion from 2020 to 2030.
