CA SB1355

Establishes an infraction for knowingly and intentionally operating an unmanned aircraft system on or above state prisons, jails, or juvenile halls, camps, or ranches, punishable by a $500 fine.

Exempts employees of these facilities acting within the scope of their employment and persons who receive prior written permission from the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, county sheriff, or county department operating the facility.

Defines "unmanned aircraft" as an aircraft operated without direct human intervention and "unmanned aircraft system" as the aircraft plus associated control elements required for safe operation.

Specifies that no state reimbursement is required for local agencies or school districts because the costs result from creating a new infraction as defined by state law.

Approved by Governor September 10, 2018 and filed with Secretary of State on the same date.
