CA SB410

Authorizes the Department of Human Resources or designated appointing authority to accept a signed document from an applicant's military commanding officer to verify military service for active duty members requesting veterans' hiring preference in civil service examinations.

Requires that before an active duty applicant enters state service with veterans' preference benefits, the department or appointing authority must obtain the same standard proof of eligibility for veterans' preference that applies to other veterans.

Procedures for requesting and proving veterans' preference eligibility remain subject to rules promulgated by the Department of Human Resources in consultation with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Became effective September 11, 2017.
