Proclaims May 2018 as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Awareness Month in California.

Encourages continued research to find treatments and eventually a cure for ALS, as well as improved care and support for patients and families.

Notes that ALS causes nearly 2 deaths per 100,000 people annually, with over 5,300 new diagnoses per year in the United States and average life expectancy of 2-5 years after diagnosis.

Recognizes that ALS selectively destroys motor neurons while leaving the mind unaffected, and that military veterans have a higher incidence of the disease than the general population.
