Recognizes that stomach cancer has a 31 percent overall survival rate and 5 percent five-year survival rate when diagnosed at stage IV, with mortality rates remaining unchanged over 30 years

Notes that approximately 26,240 new stomach cancer cases are diagnosed annually in the United States, with 10,800 deaths occurring in the first year of diagnosis

Acknowledges that stomach cancer cases have increased 70 percent in young adults aged 25-39 since 1977, and more than 95,000 people in the United States are currently living with the disease
