Santa Clara River in Soledad Canyon near Santa Clarita contains significant ecological resources and serves as the primary natural habitat for the unarmored threespine stickleback, a state fully protected and federally endangered fish species.

Proposed aggregate mining project in Soledad Canyon would deplete water flow from the river, harm wildlife habitat, increase daily truck traffic on State Highway 14, and worsen air pollution in disadvantaged Antelope Valley communities.

Senate intends to enact legislation to prevent further development of the proposed mining project in Soledad Canyon and urges Congress and the President to pass similar legislation.

Senate urges the U.S. Department of the Interior and Bureau of Land Management to expeditiously deny all pending appeals and claims related to continued development of the mining project.

Senate directs the Secretary of the Senate to transmit copies of this resolution to federal officials including the President, Congress leadership, Secretary of the Interior, and the BLM Director.
