Student Aid Commission may grant up to 30 additional calendar days beyond established application deadlines for any state-funded financial aid program if a qualifying event has adversely affected students' ability to submit applications.

Qualifying events include natural disasters, states of emergency declared by the Governor or President, and labor actions that occurred during the application period.

Requests for deadline extensions must be submitted by designated officials (school district superintendents, community college chancellors, or higher education institution presidents) within 10 business days of the qualifying event.

Commission must issue written notice of approved extensions within 24 hours and post the new deadline and affected geographic area on its website.

For the 2019–20 academic year only, the commission may retroactively postpone deadlines if requests are received within 10 business days after this act becomes operative, requiring unanimous vote of the commission's elected officers.
