AB 2116 Summary

• Requires each school to have at least one employee trained in seizure recognition, treatment, and response by January 1, 2022

• Mandates schools provide seizure first aid training to all personnel with direct contact with pupils, including teachers, bus drivers, and classroom aides

• Authorizes school nurses or designated trained personnel to administer seizure rescue medication to pupils or assist with self-administration if parental authorization and health care provider documentation are obtained

• Requires schools to collaborate with parents to create individualized seizure action plans for pupils diagnosed with seizure disorders

• Mandates age-appropriate seizure education programs for all pupils, consistent with Epilepsy Foundation of America guidelines
