AB 232 Summary

• Expands the annual veteran suicide report required from the State Department of Public Health to include veterans' locations of residency and death, length and locations of service, branches of service, and occupations/industries.

• Establishes the Commission on Veteran Suicide Prevention within the Department of Veterans Affairs, comprised of 5 commissioners including the Secretary of Veterans Affairs as chair.

• Requires the commission to review each annual veteran suicide report and make recommendations for preventing veteran suicide based on the data collected.

• Maintains existing requirement for the Department of Public Health to provide annual reports to the Legislature and Department of Veterans Affairs beginning January 1, 2019.
