Prohibits any person from using the title "athletic trainer," "certified athletic trainer," or similar designations (AT, ATC, LAT, CAT) unless they graduate from an accredited athletic training education program and obtain certification from the Board of Certification, Inc. or a comparable certifying entity.

Declares that using athletic trainer titles without meeting these requirements constitutes an unfair business practice under California law.

Grandfathers individuals who have worked as athletic trainers in California for 20 consecutive years prior to January 1, 2021, allowing them to continue using the "athletic trainer" title even if not otherwise eligible.

Takes effect immediately as an urgency statute to ensure student and professional athletes have timely access to qualified athletic trainer services.
