Adds absence for participating in a cultural ceremony or event as a new category of excused absences under Education Code Section 48205.

Excused absence for cultural ceremonies or events is added as item (11) to the list of required excused absences, placed before the discretionary absence provision.

Pupils with excused absences under this provision must be allowed to complete missed assignments and tests within a reasonable period and receive full credit upon satisfactory completion.

Absences for cultural ceremonies or events count toward average daily attendance calculations but do not generate state apportionment payments.

If the Commission on State Mandates determines this bill imposes state-mandated costs on local agencies and school districts, reimbursement shall be made pursuant to Government Code Part 7.
