Requires the Department of Housing and Community Development and the California Building Standards Commission to research and propose building standards for installing electric vehicle charging infrastructure in existing multifamily dwellings and nonresidential development by July 1, 2022, or the next interim California Building Code, whichever comes first.

Mandates use of existing California Green Building Standards Code sections as the starting point for developing new mandatory building standards, with amendments as necessary.

Requires the Department of Housing and Community Development and the commission to consult with interested parties including utilities, electric vehicle manufacturers, local building officials, commercial property owners, and the building industry when developing standards.

Establishes a requirement to review and update the standards for multifamily dwellings and nonresidential development every 18 months to ensure continued relevance and effectiveness.
