AB 819 Summary

• Extends the interim rate for short-term residential therapeutic programs and foster family agencies from December 31, 2019 to December 31, 2020.

• Authorizes staff members of group homes to administer prescribed subcutaneous injections (such as insulin) to foster children, in addition to existing authorized caregivers.

• Requires counties and foster family agencies to request and provide resource family case files and documents when a resource family seeks approval by a subsequent agency or transfers approval to a county.

• Expands criminal background check requirements for individuals working in community care facilities eligible to accept dependent child placements and clarifies excluded individuals are prohibited from being resource families.

• Authorizes probation agencies to make emergency placements of juveniles with relatives or nonrelative extended family members, pending resource family approval, and modifies intensive services foster care placement limits to allow up to 3 children in compelling circumstances.
