Requests Congress and the President to increase the maximum annual federal Pell Grant award from $6,195 to at least $7,500

Notes that over 700,000 California students received more than $4 billion in Pell Grant awards during the 2018-19 academic year

States that while the current maximum grant has kept pace with inflation since 1976-77, it has not kept pace with rising college costs

Points out that 20 years ago the maximum Pell Grant covered 23 percent of University of California costs but currently covers only 18 percent, with a $7,500 grant needed to match that historical coverage level

Directs the California Legislature to transmit copies of this resolution to federal elected officials and the President
