Commemorates the 45th anniversary of the Khmer Rouge seizing control of Cambodia on April 17, 1975, and the genocide that followed

Honors the over 1.7 million Cambodians killed during the Khmer Rouge regime (1975-1979), representing 21 percent of Cambodia's population

Recognizes California's largest Cambodian population and Long Beach as home to the largest Cambodian community outside Southeast Asia

Calls upon all Californians to observe the week through appropriate activities and programs to remember genocide victims and honor survivors and their descendants
