Requires California State University campuses and requests University of California campuses to post housing cost information on their websites by February 1 each year, including market costs for one- and two-bedroom apartments and one-person bedrooms in private houses near campus.

Mandates campuses post separate cost-of-living estimates on the same webpage for living at home, food, transportation, books and supplies, miscellaneous expenses, tuition, and mandatory student fees.

Requires campuses to include descriptions of the data sources and methods used to calculate estimates for each cost-of-living category.

Requires campuses to post a statement emphasizing that cost estimates reflect typical students but actual costs vary considerably, and encouraging prospective students and families to consider how their own costs might differ.

Effective February 1, 2020, with annual updates thereafter.
