California Transportation Commission may relinquish the portion of Route 1 within Pismo Beach city limits to the City of Pismo Beach if the state Department of Transportation and city enter into an agreement.

Relinquishment becomes effective the day after the county recorder records the commission's relinquishment resolution approving the terms and conditions.

Upon relinquishment, the portion of Route 1 ceases to be a state highway and becomes ineligible for future adoption as a state highway.

City of Pismo Beach must maintain traffic flow continuity on the relinquished portion, including traffic signal progression.

City of Pismo Beach must maintain signs within its jurisdiction directing motorists to the continuation of Route 1.
