Allows duly authorized news representatives to enter closed areas established by peace officers during demonstrations, protests, marches, or rallies involving constitutionally protected activity.

Prohibits peace officers and law enforcement from intentionally assaulting, interfering with, or obstructing authorized media representatives who are gathering or processing information for public communication.

Exempts duly authorized media representatives in closed areas from citations for failure to disperse, curfew violations, or violations of obstructing peace officers under Penal Code Section 148(a)(1).

Requires that if a media representative is detained, they must be permitted to immediately contact a supervisory officer to challenge the detention, unless circumstances make this impossible.

Defines a duly authorized representative as a person appearing to gather information who produces a business card, press badge, similar credential, or carries professional broadcasting or recording equipment.
