Increases court transcript fees effective July 1, 2021: original transcripts from $0.85 to $1.13 per 100 words, and copies purchased simultaneously from $0.15 to $0.20 per 100 words.

Raises fees for first copies not purchased with the original from $0.20 to $0.26 per 100 words, and additional copies from $0.15 to $0.20 per 100 words.

Prohibits trial courts from unilaterally changing their established practices regarding the number of words or folios counted on a typical transcript page.

Removes the restriction limiting the 50% surcharge for special daily transcription service to civil cases, allowing it to apply to all case types.

Requires the Judicial Council to report to the Legislature by January 1, 2023 with recommendations to increase uniformity in transcription rate expenditures across California, in collaboration with court reporter associations and unions.
