Recognizes Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on what would have been his 91st birthday (January 15, 2020) and honors his legacy of fighting segregation and injustice through nonviolent means.

Acknowledges California's role as the first state to establish Dr. King's birthday as a school holiday in 1970 and subsequently as a statewide holiday.

Encourages Senate members to urge constituents to participate in community service projects aligned with Dr. King's values of equality, civility, and unity.

Recognizes Dr. King's 1964 Nobel Peace Prize at age 35, his leadership in the Civil Rights Movement, and his work organizing the Poor People's Campaign to address economic injustice.

Honors Dr. King's contributions to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Voting Rights Act of 1965, and other antidiscrimination laws that ended legal segregation in America.
