California State University must electronically transmit personal information (name, email, mailing address, mobile phone number) of students using GI Bill educational benefits to the Department of Veterans Affairs, starting with the 2023–24 academic year and annually thereafter.

University of California is requested (but not required) to participate in the same information sharing arrangement.

Students must provide informed, written consent before their personal information is shared with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

California State University Chancellor's office and University of California President's office must develop and post a consent template by June 1, 2023, for use by campus financial aid offices.

Information shared with the Department of Veterans Affairs may only be used to provide benefits and support services for veterans and cannot be disclosed for other purposes.
