AB 1944 Summary

• Requires agendas to identify any legislative body member participating remotely and mandates updated agendas if members elect to participate remotely after initial posting.

• Allows legislative bodies to exempt members from disclosing private teleconference locations by majority vote, provided at least a quorum participates from a single public location within the agency's jurisdiction, effective January 1, 2024.

• Mandates all teleconferenced meetings provide a public video stream and allow members of the public to address the body remotely through audio-visual or call-in options during public comment periods.

• Sunsets these teleconferencing provisions on January 1, 2030, returning to standard in-person meeting requirements under the Ralph M. Brown Act.

• Makes constitutional findings demonstrating that limitations on public access to private teleconference locations protect public officials' privacy while preserving access to government proceedings.
