Upon charter school closure on or after January 1, 2023, the school district where the charter school was located becomes the designated entity to dispose of remaining net assets if no other entity is designated, and may spend or dispose of assets at its discretion.

Charter schools must update all pupil records in CALPADS and report the number of displaced pupils to the department before closing.

California School Finance Authority must notify the chartering authority and school district of a charter school's application for Charter School Facility Grant Program funding.

Owners of charter school facilities owned by related parties must reimburse the Charter School Facility Grant Program Fund for all grant funds received in the preceding 10 years if the facility is sold or leased for purposes other than public, nonsectarian education within 10 years of receiving grant funds, excluding funds received before January 1, 2023.

California School Finance Authority may charge an application fee for grant applications for charter school facilities owned by related parties to cover evaluation costs.
