Amends Penal Code Section 830.1 to add Merced County to the list of counties whose deputy sheriffs employed in custodial assignments are classified as peace officers.

Deputy sheriffs in custodial roles are authorized to exercise peace officer powers statewide only while performing their custodial duties or other law enforcement duties directed by their employing agency during a local state of emergency.

Applies to deputy sheriffs employed to perform duties exclusively or initially relating to custodial assignments with responsibilities for maintaining county custodial facilities, including custody, care, supervision, security, movement, and transportation of inmates.

Effective September 18, 2022.
