California State University campuses and community college districts must use Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) data to identify students meeting CalFresh income requirements and email them about potential eligibility.

Email notifications must inform students they may qualify for CalFresh if they meet exemptions under federal regulations and include contact information for local county welfare agencies and campus staff who can assist with applications.

University of California campuses, independent institutions of higher education, and private postsecondary institutions are encouraged (but not required) to conduct the same FAFSA-based outreach regarding CalFresh eligibility.

Defines a student as attending "at least one-half time" when enrolled in at least one-half the credits needed to graduate within four years as a first-time freshman or two years as a transfer student, conforming to federal regulations.

FAFSA data may only be used to inform students of potential CalFresh eligibility, not for other purposes.
