Requires pupils absent under this provision to be allowed to complete missed assignments and tests within a reasonable period and receive full credit upon satisfactory completion.

Counts these absences toward average daily attendance calculations but does not generate state apportionment payments.

Incorporates coordinating amendments with Senate Bill 14 regarding mental or behavioral health absences if both bills are enacted, with AB 516 taking precedence if enacted after SB 14.

Requires state reimbursement to local agencies and school districts for any costs mandated by this act as determined by the Commission on State Mandates.
