State Public Defender must undertake a study to assess appropriate workloads for public defenders and indigent defense attorneys, subject to legislative appropriation.

Study must be conducted in consultation with the California Public Defenders Association and other subject matter experts.

Report with findings and recommendations must be submitted to the Legislature no later than January 1, 2024.

Report submission must comply with Section 9795 of the Government Code.

This section is repealed on January 1, 2028, pursuant to Section 10231.5 of the Government Code.
