Proclaims May 18, 2022, and each May 18 thereafter, as the anniversary of the 5.18 Democratization Movement in California.

Recognizes the 5.18 Democratization Movement in 1980 as citizens of Gwangju, South Korea fought against military dictatorship, resulting in 166 deaths, 376 delayed deaths from injuries, 3,139 injured, and 54 missing persons.

Acknowledges California's significant Korean American population of 600,000 residents, including over 250,000 in Los Angeles and the second-largest Korean American population in Orange County.

Honors the movement as a symbol of democracy that led to the June Democratic Uprising and subsequent democratization of South Korea, with records inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Directs the Chief Clerk of the Assembly to transmit copies of the resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
