CA SB1194

Authorizes cities, counties, or city and counties to require new or renovated public restrooms to be designed for use by all genders instead of separate facilities for men and women, by adopting an ordinance or resolution.

Requires all-gender restrooms to have compliant signage identifying them for use by all genders and allows lavatories to be located either within toilet rooms or in an immediately adjacent common use area accessible to all users.

Single-user toilet facilities must continue to comply with existing California Building Standards Code requirements.

This authority becomes inoperative and is repealed on the date that all-gender multiuser facility standards take effect in the California Building Standards Code.
