Requires law enforcement agencies to provide parents or guardians of deceased minors with contact information for investigating officers, case numbers, lists of personal effects, and investigation status updates.

If parents or guardians cannot be located, the same information must be provided to the victim's immediate family upon request (defined as spouse, parents, guardians, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, and children/grandchildren related by blood, marriage, or adoption).

Law enforcement may withhold information if disclosure would jeopardize or interfere with an ongoing investigation, and may require family members to confirm identity through certified declaration.

Makes knowingly or willfully submitting a false certification punishable by an infraction.

Approved by Governor August 29, 2022; designates certain costs as exempt from state reimbursement under Article XIII B of the California Constitution while allowing reimbursement determination by the Commission on State Mandates for other costs.
